Tell us about yourself and what inspired you to start writing.
Hello! I’m Skye McNeil and I write romantic suspense and contemporary romance novels. I started writing eleven years ago and finished my first full-length story as a senior in high school. My parents’ trip to Scotland actually inspired me to write my first story. After that, writing became part of my daily life.
Tell us about your books.
I love to write stories that keep the reader guessing and falling in love with the characters. The Mobster Files is one of my romantic suspense series. I love drama and plot twists, so this series is full of both along with plenty of romance and humor.
How did you go about getting published?
I have gone through a traditional publisher as well as self-published. Right now, I have two incredible Indie publishers, Hot Tree Publishing and Hartwood Publishing.
What is your writing process? Do you have a time, day or place you like to write?
I like to write when it’s quiet (sometimes impossible). Music is a must as is handwriting the initial draft.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing? Full-time job, pets, hobbies?
I work full-time as a paralegal at a law firm. Criminal law is my favorite part of the job. I have two cats, one Siamese and one tabby. I also have a Golden Retriever and blue merle Australian Shepherd. All of my pets love to fight over who gets to sit on my lap. It makes writing difficult at times, but they’re worth it.
Any advice for authors about book covers?
It’s important to be passionate about your book cover. If I fall in love with the model, then I think others will too.
Any marketing tips you’d like to share with other authors?
Marketing is so much more than just posting on social media about your books. It’s all about getting a platform and building on that.
What’s your favorite book?
A Little of Chantelle Rose by Cristina Hodgson
What are you reading now?
Mute by M.V. Nystrom
What’s your next book project?
My next book will be the third in the Mobster Files and will wrap up Cameron and Joci’s love story. I’m still tossing around what needs to happen in this book despite having a synopsis done. After that, I’ll be focused on Quinn’s story. I’m very excited to work on his because Quinn is one of my favorite male characters.
