Tell us about yourself and what inspired you to start writing.
I’m a multi-published full-time author who enjoys writing cozy mysteries and fast-paced thrillers. In addition to writing in Amazon’s Kindle Worlds program, I have several books slated for 2016. In our spare time, my husband and I like attending music events and craft festivals. We also enjoy day trips to interesting places.
I credit early inspiration to childhood reading. Many years ago, my grandmother worked for Grosset and Dunlap Publishing so her grandchildren were never short on books to read. It was always a treat to visit her house because new books often hit her shelves before they made it to our own.

Christmas in the Bayou is a short story set in the Louisiana Bayou. While the story is about a ‘school shooting’ at the local elementary school, the inspiration for this story initially came to pass because I wanted to draw attention to the fact that some of our most undervalued citizens are often our teachers. It was my way of shining a spotlight on teachers across the world.
Hiding in the Bayou, also recently released at Amazon, is a fun cozy mystery. I had some laugh-out-loud moments with Gertie because she reminds me of a character from my own hometown. It’s so enjoyable to visit with Jana DeLeon’s characters in the Miss Fortune series, but I tend to write about Gertie more than the others simply because she reminds me of someone I know.
How did you go about getting published?
I began my career as a ghostwriter and was traditionally published prior to taking the small press route. Now, I’m definitely a hybrid author with works published using a variety of available methods.
What is your writing process? Do you have a time, day or place you like to write?
As a full-time writer, I typically write six or seven days a week. I begin writing early each morning and write until I’m tired or have an unavoidable interruption.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing? Full-time job, pets, hobbies?
We definitely have plenty of pets. Lord Wings and Prince Feathers are our spoiled chickens. We have a potbelly pig, horses, and dogs.
Two of our dogs are lapdogs so they go wherever I go.
My husband and I enjoy music festivals and craft fairs. We attend signings together and cherish that time together as well. As for hobbies, I enjoy cooking and day trips to interesting historical or haunted places.
Any advice for authors about book covers?
Covers are so important and yet they’ve become so expensive. My advice would be to look around and shop for the best cover at a fair price.
Any marketing tips you’d like to share with other authors?
Market your books where you like to spend your time. I love Pinterest and Twitter. I don’t enjoy Facebook. When I stopped spending time on Facebook, I had more time to write and more time to spend enjoyable marketing hours on Twitter.

What’s your next book project?
I’ve been working on several manuscripts. I just finished up a novel for the Miss Fortune series. I’m also working on a thriller that will release sometime next year.
