Tell us about yourself and what inspired you to start writing.
I’m a twenty-something girl living somewhere on planet Earth. Books are my favorite thing in the world.
My vices include eating mountains of chocolate and binge watching TV shows.
I’m a nocturnal creature of the worst kind–reading (and writing) is just so much better at night!
I have an abiding love for books and I’ve always dabbled in writing just as something to pass the time, but then a few years ago I had an idea and I simply had to write it down and it became an actual novel.
Tell us about your books.
My book is called My Life As I Knew It by Peri June (eBook available on all Amazon marketplaces). It’s a Young Adult Contemporary book. It has romance in it. I would also put it under the “realistic fiction” category. The main character is a 17-year-old girl named Maggie–a very self-aware person.
Her love interest is a very cheeky guy who made me laugh and grin whenever he appeared on the page.
The book also deals with a couple of heavy issues (that I won’t spoil here) so it’s not all fluff.
How did you go about getting published?
I went the self-publishing route. It seemed the most logical option for me, even if the whole marketing hoopla has fallen solely on my shoulders, but thankfully, I get to have the help of websites like this one, which is great.
What is your writing process? Do you have a time, day or place you like to write?
I like to write at night. I tried writing during the daylight hours a few times, but my productivity was not impressive at all.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing? Full-time job, pets, hobbies?
My number one hobby is, of course, reading.
Any advice for authors about book covers?
If you have a friend or someone who can design you a professional-looking cover, then do it.
If not, it’s always better to get it professionally done.
Any marketing tips you’d like to share with other authors?
I’ve only recently discovered free promotion sites like this one. They’re a great help for new authors.
Also, tell every single person you know about your book and have them tell all the people they know as well. Word of mouth goes a long way.
What’s your favorite book?
I have many, many favorites. Naming just one is kind of impossible for me.
What are you reading now?
I just finished a book called Kill The Boy Band by Goldy Moldavsky. It was zany, funny and a little twisted. Amazing book!
What’s your next book project?
I’m currently working on a New Adult College Romance with a little dark edge.
