Tell us about yourself and what inspired you to start writing.
I am sure it was reading that inspired me to start writing! My mother encouraged reading when I was little. We also moved a lot since my dad was in the Navy, so I learned to entertain myself with books, and then, ideas. I wrote my first story at age eight, on one of our many road trips! My family strongly encouraged my writing. It helped me through the rough teen years, even when I shared it with no one. But I am now comfortable with sharing my writing, and longing to belong to a community of readers and writers!

How did you go about getting published?
I self-published, using Kindle Direct Publishing.
What is your writing process? Do you have a time, day or place you like to write?
Whenever the spirit moves me. Once I get the momentum, it could be at any time of day! If I am invested in my characters, I want to either give them closure, or a happy ending.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing? Full-time job, pets, hobbies?
I am a middle school educator, trying to show kids how fun writing can be! I have a small dog who is a bundle of fun, and I devote some time to yoga, my church, volunteer work, reading (no big surprise) and enjoying nature.
Any advice for authors about book covers?
It is worth it to hire one. Even if it is someone from Fiverr.com. I found a person there who did a great job on my second cover.
Any marketing tips you’d like to share with other authors?
Spread the word BEFORE the book is published. Use word of mouth, social media, order business cards (I have just done that, two months after the fact). Make people anxious to see what you will do as a writer. That, and find author sites that will design and send tweets for you. I also think having a book trailer was helpful, if for no other reason but to get me attention.
What’s your favorite book?
That is too difficult. There are so many. For now, I’ll jsut through out “A Prayer for Owne Meany.” It is so layered, and it has a little of everything in it, the supernatural, God, destiny, history, politics, humor, romance.
What are you reading now?
“Echo, Approaching Shatter,” a military sci-fi drama written by an author I discovered on the wordpress blog.
What’s your next book project?
My next book project is also in the sci-fi genre. I started writing it during NANOWRIMO (you know, in November), and despite on and off hand pain, I eked out 30,000 words! So I did not complete the challenge, but I got up around 60,000 words and 200 pages at the end of December. Now, that is an accomplishment! This is a full-length novel. All I have to do is edit, re-write, and research certain details, which may take a year. I will let it marinade until perfect! Plus, I am still working on promoting the e-books I published this year, however, the full-length novel I am planning will be published for e-book and in print, so I will need to use more resources. It is really exciting!
