Tell us about yourself and what inspired you to start writing.
My name is Nina Slack, in my 20’s. I am a published Author and Poet. I have always loved writing for as long as I can remember. My favorite subject in school was English Literature. Some of my influences are: Ville Vallo (singer, song-writer), Edgar Allan Poe (Poet, Writer), Die Brüder Grimm (The Brothers Grimm; university Students, Writers, Poets)…
I have spent some time studying at College in the field of Criminology. And recently, I have been studying the German language and German culture. You will see that incorporated in quit a few of my books. c:
I currently live in the United States of America right now, but I am hoping to be able to travel more in the near future. I’m wanting to find new adventures to write about.
I am a bit of an introvert, but I do enjoy good conversation.
My hobbies include: playing violin, crafting, reading, writing, translating, studying…
Tell us about your books.
I have 5 books published so far.
Little Effie’s Book Of Poetry (a poetry book for young and old alike)
Vladimir Learns German and Wladimir Lernt Englisch (children’s books for bi-lingual children in German and English)
Once Lost, Forever Found (A Young Adult Novel written in the form of a memoir…*not for a really young audience)
and Verloren (A Fantasy book that takes place in Germany).
You can find more information about all of my books on my author website link provided at the bottom of this interview.
How did you go about getting published?
I did the self-publishing thing. It is good and bad in a way…there is more freedom to it, but you are also responsible for your own promotions, which can be difficult.
What is your writing process? Do you have a time, day or place you like to write?
I like to write in the day time, at night I just want to be lazy c: I sit at my main computer in the living room. It’s nice; I get my privacy and quiet, nobody is there to annoy me or read over my shoulder *-*
What do you like to do when you’re not writing? Full-time job, pets, hobbies?
Well, when I am not writing, I am either working or spending time with my family and friends or enjoying an evening alone to either watch old black and white movies (sometimes in German), write, read, make crafts (I love making homemade choker necklaces), and playing my violin.
Any advice for authors about book covers?
Basically, you just want to make an impression, don’t choose all dark colors or all light colors…pick colors that contrast and then the cover will stand out more. Also, choose a cover that best describes your book.
Any marketing tips you’d like to share with other authors?
Get your book out there as much as possible and anywhere you can…goodreads, youtube, local libraries, local book stores, go crazy with the word of mouth c:
What’s your favorite book?
Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt.
What are you reading now?
Eine Frau In Berlin von Anonym.
What’s your next book project?
I am currently writing volume 2 of Once Lost, Forever Found. I am hoping to finish it soon c:
