Tell us about yourself and what inspired you to start writing.
A couple of things from childhood helped me develop a love for writing fiction. First, I had a fourth grade teacher who insisted we write short stories containing a certain number of our weekly spelling words. Some of the kids hated that with a passion, but I loved it. Secondly, I got my backside tanned quite a few times for making up stories. As I got older, I grew out of telling them as lies and instead learned to use my active imagination for writing novels.
I currently reside in a small Montana ghost town consisting of approximately twelve people. My wife and I have three goats – Shazaam, Dipstick, and Reese. We don’t milk them and definitely have no intentions of eating them. They are our little pets and bring us a lot of joy!
Tell us about your books.
My books are about as clean as they come. I believe Christian books ought to be free of any foul language or inappropriate sexual scenes.
“Hidden in Harmony: Danger is Imminent” is a Christian mystery coming out on October 14, 2017. It’s about a devout Christian family who has a homeless man show up on their doorstep one night in need of food and shelter. They take him in only to learn of horrible accusations previously made against him. The next thing the family knows, they, along with their entire community, are in serious danger and something has to be done! The book is currently available for preorder on Amazon and a trailer can be found on Youtube. Look it up – you’ll be glad you did!
In August of this year I released the second edition of “Revenge Fires Back” – a novel about a lackadaisical, backslidden Christian family who goes on a camping trip where everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Poor decisions, unforeseen circumstances, anger outbursts, and deception split the family apart. Their only hope is God and He is still on the throne!
I also have a permafree mini-book out, “Snowflakes to Iron,” which is a fiction book about how our society seems to be being taken over by Snowflake People – people who can’t stay put together when facing the smallest amounts of friction. It discusses how God wants better than that for His people and provides a plan for toughening up. It’s free on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Check it out!
How did you go about getting published?
I am a self-published author and love the perks of being what folks refer to as an “indie.” I enjoy working with cover designers and book launch teams to make my books the best they can be. I also enjoy marketing and networking with other authors. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
What is your writing process? Do you have a time, day or place you like to write?
I typically write at my desk, but sometimes on the sofa, in a chair, or outside in my hard whenever I have the time. Quite often that takes me late into the night – sometimes until 3 or 4 am. Other times it has me getting up at the crack of dawn. Regardless, I love to write and that’s all that matters.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing? Full-time job, pets, hobbies?
I’m an assistant pastor, youth pastor, and music director at a small, local Baptist church. I’m very involved in ministerial work and am thankful that God is using me in such a capacity.
Any advice for authors about book covers?
Don’t use the generic templates on Createspace and kindle. Getting a professional cover made is well worth the price.
Any marketing tips you’d like to share with other authors?
I would not recommend the many gigs on Fiverr. I have tried quite a few of those with little to no success. There are much better advertisers out there. Before you use any advertiser, however, be sure to do a search on Bing to make sure they’re not listed on a rip-off report or as a scam.
What’s your favorite book?
The King James Bible
What are you reading now?
What’s your next book project?
I’m currently working on a sequel to “Hidden in Harmony,” and I’m about 30,000 words into it thus far. I can’t wait to get it finished so I’m spending a lot of hours on it each week. There are some new characters that readers are sure to be crazy about. Can’t wait to share it with you!
