Tell us about yourself and what inspired you to start writing.
First of all, I wanted to thank you very much for this interview!
When I was a little girl, I used to love reading. I would even sometimes get in trouble for reading under the covers with a flashlight past my bedtime. I just really loved reading. When I was in elementary school I remember even writing, illustrating and creating the book binding for a couple of books I wrote called “The First Pizza” and “The First Cat”. I guess I have always loved to read and write.
Tell us about your books.
Throughout time people have always loved catchy fun, wise quotes they can use on an everyday basis. Everything from “shoot for the moon and you’ll be among the stars” to “we must be the change we wish to see in the world” are inspirational beloved sayings that have helped inspire millions of people all over the world. While the “Dreams of the Heart” series was created to do exactly this, “Keep Joy in a Pocket & Love in a Heart Locket” was created for the sole purpose of making the messages in the full poems much more effective and easy to remember for everyday universal inspiration. To fill hearts all over the world with joy, hope, love and fun-filled inspiration, for generations to come – timeless, memorable overflowing words of love for all to enjoy!!
How did you go about getting published?
My dream has always been to publish a novel series. Publishing an inspirational poetry and quotes series was truly unexpected. I used to publish my writing on various writing sites I found online to receive much needed peer and public feedback. One day, I was contacted by a publisher who had found my writing online and asked to publish my work. That was how the “Dreams of the Heart” vol. I & II and “Keep Joy in a Pocket & Love in a Heart Locket” series was created.
What is your writing process? Do you have a time, day or place you like to write?
Unlike many writers, I don’t necessarily have a writing process. I write when I feel like writing. Because I love writing so much, I only write when I’m completely in the mood to write. I believe that by doing so, my readers will sense the love in my writing and will enjoy my books as thoroughly as possible.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing? Full-time job, pets, hobbies?
I love to stay fit and eat healthy. My favorite exercise is jogging. I currently jog about 14 miles per week. Maintaining a healthy balance in all aspects of my life is one of my biggest priorities. This includes making God number one in my life. Additionally, I love to spend time with my loved ones and keep in touch with my friends.
Any advice for authors about book covers?
When it comes to my book covers, all three were self-made. I also know that there are many exceptionally talented award winning professional as well as up and coming book cover designers that can help create amazing book covers for a reasonable fee. I definitely support the authors’ creative vision to choose one avenue or the other.
Any marketing tips you’d like to share with other authors?
The internet has opened up countless opportunities for authors. I know authors that have gone the indie route as well as the traditional route and have still ended up being a bestseller. I believe, via the world wide web and other like advances, that authors are now being granted more freedom with how they choose to publish, market, and distribute their works. Everything from Facebook fan pages to great sites like Read Write Club and Book Reader Magazine, offers authors a more readily accessible presence than ever before. Fans can interact with their favorite author and authors can have more control of their own creative vision. As a result, my advice would be to utilize any and all tools that have been created to help promote books as well as remaining open to creative new avenues and possibilities to market. For example, creating a YouTube video is a great way for ebook authors to “meet” their potential fans without having an actual book signing event.
