Tell us about yourself and what inspired you to start writing.
I am a seventy-five-year old retired man. I have been married to the same woman for 52 years. Kathy and I spent the first half of our marriage in Long Isand, New York. We have lived in Nevada for the last 24 years. Originally, we both came from Sunnyside, Queens. I went through grade school with my wife’s sister. I needed no inspiration to write “Butterfly Wish” nor did my co-author Rich Marcano. It’s a story we’ve been wanting to tell since we served together in the US Air Force in South Korea in 1963. It was never a question of inspiration we only needed to find the courage to write the book. Althoug it’s a work of fiction; it is loosely based on what we experienced, saw or heard about while serving in South Korea.
Tell us about your books.
“Butterfly Wish” is our first novel. The genre is Historical Romance. It is hard hitting at times and doesn’t pull any punches. It was the only way we knew how to write the book. We are presently working on our second novel, “Twice Upon a Time”. This is a Paranormal Romance … a genre we were not too familiar with when we started writing it. It deals specifically with lost love and Time Travel. We hope to have it ready to be released in the fall of 2018.
How did you go about getting published?
Under most circumstances new authors have no other options then to self publish and it’s a difficult endeavor I had the help of https://www.bookbaby.com/ to get it formatted and released as an E book and printed as a soft cover trade book The front cover design came from https://www.selfpubbookcovers.com Marketing the book has been the most difficult part of self-publishing.
What is your writing process? Do you have a time, day or place you like to write?
Being I work with a co-author we have no set time or day we write. When we have something to add to the book we reach out by phone or on our computers. We lived 2500 miles apart. Sometimes that can be real challenging.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing? Full-time job, pets, hobbies?
As I said at the beginning I’m seventy-five-years old and retired. I have two little dogs who seem to occupy a lot of my time but most of my time is spent writing. When you are my age every day counts for something.
Any advice for authors about book covers?
Not really. If you don’t know a graphic designer then do your homework. There are a lot of companies out there offering to create a book cover for you. Research them carefully.
Any marketing tips you’d like to share with other authors?
Only to just keep pluggimg away. Use any resource you can find to market your book. Going up against large publishing houses is a tough challenge. Don’t give up.
What’s your favorite book?
That’s a tough question to answer. I like just about any book written by James Michener and any book written by Larry McMurty.
What are you reading now?
I’m reading a novel that has not been published yet. It’s called, “The Final Position” by Eoin McDonald.
What’s your next book project?
Rich and I are working out of our genre comfort zone. We are wrtting a Paranormal Romance novel titled ‘Twice Upon a Time” It deals with long lost love and time travel.
