Mary Verdant is an avid gardener. She finds wonder in the simple miracles of life, like planting a seed, watering it, and tasting the wonderful fruits (and vegetables) of her labors.
Mary studied horticulture at Merritt College in Oakland, California. She still works in Oakland teaching her clients about gardening and helping them plant their own gardens.
One of her favorite experiences is the look on a child’s face when they first bite into a ripe, beautiful tomato that they grew themselves!
She has helped create beautiful and bountiful gardens in California, North Carolina, England, and Hawaii – and her books have inspired gardeners all over the world.
Her goal is to simplify gardening. She understands how very easy it is to create and grow a garden (especially in containers) and she writes in order to inspire everyone – young and old – healthy and healing – to grow their own gardens and discover how easy, fun and nurturing a garden can be.
She focuses on getting straight to the point – so her books are short and clear. She wants you to be out planting and harvesting, not sitting inside reading a book!
