Tell us about yourself and what inspired you to start writing.
I always say I was destined to be a writer as my favorite baby picture shows me with a newspaper in front of me and a pencil behind my ear. I also write for newspapers.
Tell us about your books.
I’ve always been fascinated by true crime. Growing up in Chicago, you can’t escape gangsters, Al Capone and Dillinger lore. Lizzie Borden was just as interesting, especially once you read the autopsy reports and view the crime scene photos. That led to my deciding on another fictional view of the crimes in Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter, The Haunting of Dr. Bowen and the latest, Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter 2: The Axe Will Fall.
How did you go about getting published?
I have been with both small press, small traditional publishers and self-published.
What is your writing process? Do you have a time, day or place you like to write?
I write pretty much every day. If I’m mot working on fiction, I’m still writing newspaper features. Keeps me out of trouble. ha!
What do you like to do when you’re not writing? Full-time job, pets, hobbies?
I’m an avid dollhouse collector and miniaturist (some samples are on my website), I also like to garden, read, enjoy my dog and…? I like to keep busy.
Any advice for authors about book covers?
If you don’t have an eye for photography or fonts, look around at other books in your genre. There are plenty of good book cover creators in a range of prices. If it doesn’t make someone stop and go wow!, then maybe you need a new cover.
Any marketing tips you’d like to share with other authors?
Be active online. Jon Facebook and talk about lots of stuff, not just your books. Have a website and update it. Yes, it’s a lot of work. ha!
What’s your favorite book?
Only one? I admit, I like re-reading Jack Finney’s Time After Time. I liked I am Legend, the book. There are so many good ones!
What are you reading now?
I plan on starting The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton and Scott Kenemore’s Zombie: Indiana.
What’s your next book project?
As I just finished Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter 2: The Axe Will Fall, I may concentrate on short stories next. I have been working on a selection of paranormal and ghost stories with Lizzie in them. I like her character and don’t want to stop writing about her just yet.
