Tell us about yourself and what inspired you to start writing.
I’m a jack of all trades, master of well…all really. I started writing professionally because I needed a career which gave me sufficient time to spend with my son as pharmacy wasn’t really cutting it for me. Stories have always swirled around in my head, but I never really got to sit down and finish one. My first story was a memoir I wrote about single parenthood. It was difficult to write because it came from a very personal place. However, it conversely freed me to write about anything after that.
Tell us about your books.
I’ve written a memoir about single parenthood, and I’m now in the middle of writing a series to do with the Louisiana swamp. New Orleans is a hotbed of the Supernatural and I love to explore the unusual. My Child of Destiny Series does that; it is at its core, about love in its various forms, but it also deals with ghosts and other undefined entities.
How did you go about getting published?
Once I finished my the first Child of Destiny book I submitted it to a competition. it finished in the top 100 but meanwhile I wrote a second book that was accepted for publication by an independent publisher. This year, I took my book back and republished it independently on smashwords.
What is your writing process? Do you have a time, day or place you like to write?
I wake up in the morning, switch on my computer and start typing after checking my mail. when I get hungry I go get something to eat and then its back to the laptop; probably until 3am. Its not all writing. there is a whole lot of procrastinating as well, but I’m trying to get more organised.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing? Full-time job, pets, hobbies?
When I’m not writing, or rather even as I’m writing, I read stories, and watch movies.
Any advice for authors about book covers?
Book covers for me are something I can visualise in my head as I write and getting someone else to actualise that vision is sometimes all but impossible. Everyone has their own process and what might work for one, might not work for another. Personally I design my own covers.
Any marketing tips you’d like to share with other authors?
Just remember that its a marathon, not a sprint. just try to do something to promote your book every day without bombarding your followers with ‘please buy my book’ messages. Value addition is the key.
What’s your favorite book?
what? just one? Child of Destiny.
What are you reading now?
I’m reading the Game of Thrones series.
What’s your next book project?
My next book project is Child of Destiny Marcus Devereaux. I’m doing something I haven’t tried before and writing from the perspective of the baby. I want to see if I can make it work.
